Board Care & Maintenance
A Danl Wood board is built to be both a daily kitchen tool and a lasting investment. With proper care, your board will serve you beautifully for years. Here’s how to keep it looking and performing its best:
Daily Cleaning
After each use, wash with warm water and a mild dish soap.
Wipe with a clean dish towel and stand the board on its edge to air dry completely.
Never leave your board lying flat when wet — airflow prevents warping.
Monthly Conditioning
Your board is finished with a food-grade blend of mineral oil and beeswax. To maintain its protective surface and keep the wood from drying out:
Wash with warm water and a soft sponge.
Dry thoroughly, standing the board on its edge until it’s completely dry.
Apply a liberal coat of food-grade mineral oil (enough that it’s standing on top of the wood) to all sides and edges using a clean rag.
Let the oil soak in, then wipe away any excess.
For extra protection, follow with a beeswax-based conditioner.
What Not To Do
Do not put your board in the dishwasher — heat and water will warp and splinter the wood.
Do not soak your board in water or leave it in a sink. Wood absorbs moisture and can crack, twist, or bow.
Avoid direct heat sources — keep away from stovetops, ovens, or microwaves. The heat will prematurely dry out the wood.
Do not place hot pans, kettles, or utensils directly on the board. Resting freshly cooked meats or warm foods is fine.
Do not use olive oil, vegetable oil, or other cooking oils for maintenance — they can turn rancid and damage the surface.
Do not use your board as a knife block — never stick knives into the wood.
Built to Last
Each Danl Wood board is crafted from premium end-grain or edge-grain hardwoods and assembled with precision joinery for strength and longevity. With consistent care and conditioning, your board will remain cutlery-friendly, durable, and beautiful for years to come.
